Answer question from Nguyen Quang Duc about listening
Dear A8,
I have received a question from Duc. He asked me about how to improve listening skill because he couldn't listen well in class this morning.
Duc raised a very useful question actually.
Duc and A8, don't worry about your listening skill. It's the problem for all Vietnamese who want to study English including me!!!
First we should ask the question: Why you can't listen to English???
Possilbe answers
1. You are not familiar with English, and with the accent of native speakers???
2. You pronounce English words in the wrong way so that you can't recognize the words???
First, of course, you are not familiar with English, and I know. So, we should spend time to get to know English, day by day! And you will feel more confident when listening to English.
You should at home listen again to the CD that you received from Mr. Tuan. Try to write down all the words you hear. Look at them and see that if they make meaningful sentences. If you can't listen to some sounds or words, rewind the CD, try to listen for at least, 4 or 5 times. If you still can't make it out, open the tapescript. Find out the missing words!!! Play the CD again to know how they pronounce the words. If they are new words, look them up right away in the dictionary. If they are old to you, find out why you couldn't recognize them!
Second, if you pronounce the English words in the wrong way, try to correct by imitating the CD or the tape. You may, play again the part that you listened in class. Do not look at the tapescript, try to repeat what the speakers say.
You'll see that it is too easy for you or it's too boring to do. But you should remember one important thing that, practice makes perfect! There is no other easier way for you to master English. Only by trying your best and accepting difficulty can you do that!!!
Hope that you see my point of view!
I'm looking forward to receiving more and more question like this!!!
With love,
co Thuy
PS: I try to write them in English, it's a way for you to practise English and learn new words, too!!! So, enjoy reading!
